Event details

Date

20 May 2026

To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the United Nations designated May 20 as World Bee Day.

Bees are critical to food production and our broader ecosystem. We need to protect their natural habitats as well as help prevent the introduction of pests and diseases. Western Australia is one of the few places in the world still free of the destructive bee pest, varroa mite.

Western Australia is also home to more than 4500 registered hobbyist and commercial beekeepers, who own more than 51,800 hives.

Buy West Eat Best has many members dedicated to the production of unique Western Australian honey, full of distinctive flavour thanks to our pristine forests. These include karri, marri and jarrah honeys that not only taste divine but are also good for you.

World Bee Day is an important reminder to do what you can to protect our bees. Buy Western Australian honey, report pests or diseases, and plant bee-friendly plants in your garden if you don’t already have them.
