Australian Black Limes

This family-owned business in the Wheatbelt is Australia’s first producer and cultivator of black limes – and, quite possibly, the Southern Hemisphere.

And the Trethewey family reckon once you’ve tasted the fruits of their labours, you won’t be able to live without these zesty limes.

Black limes can be used whole, crushed or ground into a powder, depending on the dish. They  bring an intense flavour to sweet and savoury dishes, from soups to desserts. They also add an evocative citrus and floral aroma to your dining pleasure.

Produced on an off-grid farm in Gingin, Australian Black Limes are proudly powered entirely by renewable energy from cultivation through to processing.

The Tretheweys have been deeply entrenched in the horticultural sector for two decades, juggling the demands of raising a family with running a farm. They tend to a grove of 500 lime trees and plan to welcome visitors to explore their property, too.

Guests will be encouraged to stroll through the orchard, see the fascinating process of black lime production and take some home. The family also has plans to open  a café and to host stargazing sessions – stay tuned!

In the meantime, you can order Australian Black Limes whole or in powder form on their website.
