Naturally Leavened

A home-based bakery, Naturally Leavened is all about delivering fresh, long-ferment sourdough products to bread lovers in and around Margaret River. 

Owner Steve Coonan sources grain direct from farmers in Kendenup and Bokal and baker’s flour from Millers Foods in Byford. He mills whole grains in a benchtop mill for the Naturally Leavened range, which includes batards, sandwich loaves, rye freeform and share loves and baguettes. 

The baker was smitten after eating ‘proper bread’ made by Luke at Tasty Edibles, in Greenbushes, a few years ago and decided to learn how to bake with sourdough. With support from a Federal Government self-employment scheme, Steve launched Naturally Leavened.

You can buy his homemade sourdough from Blue Ginger and Little Farm in Margaret River, and Darnell’s Store, Rosa Brook. You can also pre-order at least two days before baking days for super fresh delivery in Margaret River town. From February 2024, baking days will be Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
