The Gascoyne is set to welcome back Western Australian's top chefs in August for its much anticipated annual food festival. Events will be held across the region including Dirk Hartog Island, Exmouth, Mount Augustus and Carnarvon, showcasing amazing meat, seafood, fresh fruit and vegetables and indigenous ingredients.
The team of top chefs will be brought together by WA Food Ambassador Don Hancey from Panorama Catering. The group will experience the region up-close and personal with visits to local growers and producers on the Chef's Tour before creating their inspired dishes for guests.
Chefs joining the tour this year include:
1. Amy Hamilton - Liberte
2. George Cooper - Food by the Chef
3. Stuart Laws - Don Tapa
4. Matt Nebel - Hamptons City Beach
5. Danny Sanchez - The Four Factory
6. Caroline Taylor - The Humane Foodist
7. Sophie Budd - Taste Budds Cooking Studio
8. Jed Gerrard - Wildflower COMO the Treasury
9. Jerome Durham - Heyder & Shears
10. Jochem Beranek - Perth Stadium
11. David Gilmour - ESS Compas Group
"Every year the chefs bring something different to the Gascoyne Food Festival," said Don.
"It's a fantastic opportunity for chefs and patrons alike, to enjoy the creativity, teamwork and flair that each new group of chefs bring to the dishes they serve," he added.
Visitors can take advantage of a range of opportunities to join in the festival from the 6th to the 19th August. Events include family-friendly alfresco dining with live entertainment at the BBQ on the Beach in Carnarvon, fine-dining at the Long Table Lunch at the stunning Bentwaters Plantation, Surf & Turf on Sunrise Beach in Exmouth hosted by the Mantarays Ningaloo Beach Resort, and the free food sampling at the Gascoyne Growers Markets.
This year the festival also includes additional satellite events. The Gourmet Island Escape on Dirk Hartlog Island with Chef Russell Blaikie from the 16th to 12th August and Outback Dining Under the Stars at Mount Augustus on the 19th August.
Doriana Mangili, Executive Officer of the Gascoyne Food Council says the festival is increasingly important as production is set to expand under the new Gascoyne Master Plan, as part of the Government's Water for Food program.
"The region needs to continue to grow its markets in Perth and the festival provides a great opportunity to showcase our incredible foods," Doriana said.
"If you are looking for a winter escape, or already heading up north, make sure to stop by and enjoy one of our amazing events and while you are here make sure to stock up on our fresh sun-kissed produce too," she added.
