We are always excited to introduce new Buy West Eat Best members to you. There are so many wonderful people working so hard to bring delicious produce and products to appreciative West Australians. Here are a handful or so we have welcomed in recent months.

People like Steve Coonan from Naturally Leavened, who is in his element baking ‘proper bread’ from grain sourced directly from local farmers and baker’s flour from Millers Food. And Kylie and Kris, aka The Butter People, who want you to experience the palate-plaasing difference of creamy, natural butter.

Hayden and Beth Russell bring similar passion to their dairy in Busselton, where their beloved ‘ladies’ produce fresh milk for The Cheeky Cow range that also includes yoghurt, cream, butter and ice-cream.

The Dickerson family at Homestead Meats are all about providing the community with the finest quality meat, while over at Hellz Bellz Hot Sauce Company it’s another family affair. Everyone chips in to create sauces that pack a punch, from mild to deadly.

George Stone has channeled years of agricultural knowhow into MYCRO – a solar-powered urban farm growing a variety of gourmet and medicinal mushrooms. Horticulturalist Mark Tucek started Tucker Bush to bring Australia’s native plants and flavours, such as pepperberry and wattleseed, into our gardens and onto our palates.

The folks at Smokey Joe’s Rubs also tap the unique wells in our backyard for their range of rubs and seasonings, using salt wild harvested from pristine Lake Deborah, in the Wheatbelt, among other local ingredients. Similarly, the team at Forest Fresh puts a century of beekeeping history to good use, educating us about the health benefits of local honey, not to mention the superior taste.

Keep an eye out for these producers and purveyors of find food when you shop. And stay tuned for more local luminaries.
