Celebrating Our 15-Year Members!

Buy West Eat Best_15 Year Members Event_Web Res 8537
It's hard to believe we’re almost 20. In just two years, Buy West Eat Best will celebrate two decades of support for Western Australia's food and beverage sector. Many of our members have been with us every step of the way – 18 years and counting.

Our 15-year club is growing, too, a reflection of the value our farmers, fishers, processors, retailers, hospitality and foodservice operators see in the program. They know when consumers see Buy West Eat Best’s distinctive bitemark logo wherever they shop or eat out it brings confidence that they are supporting local. And that is definitely worth celebrating.

Let’s take a closer look at those who have proudly borne the logo for 15 years or more.

Meat and seafood

Founding member Amelia Park, now part of the Craig Mostyn Group, hand selects from the best breeders in the South West to ensure the highest quality beef. Owned by a sixth-generation local farming family, Harvey Beef takes a similar approach, working with farmers who share the same commitment to quality and sustainability to create fresh beef, jerky and pies.

Sustainability and provenance are also integral to the Linley Valley Pork philosophy. With more than 30 years raising pigs under their belt, they produce flavour-packed pork cuts for all of us to enjoy. The British Sausage Company has been making beautiful bangers for just as long and now boasts more than 30 different varieties of sausages, ham and bacon products.

Then there are the quality butchers and meat processors who ensure we get the best cuts, at home or dining out. Wholesale butcher Johnson Meats supplies high-quality beef from Cowaramup and Margaret River to the retail and hospitality industry; Ryan’s Quality Meats lives up to its name with a range of meat, game and gourmet products delivered to the public and food industry from Jandakot and Bunbury; while Western Meat Packers, which also includes Margaret River Fresh and Perth meat Export, sources and prepares delicious produce for market.

If you are partial to the ocean’s treasures, you’ll know Catalano’s Seafood. Another founding member, Catalano’s has been bringing the best quality catch to customers for more than half a century.  The Gascoyne region is one of many hotspots for superb seafood, as well as tropical fruit and vegetables grown along the Gascoyne River, giving the Gascoyne Food Council plenty to promote.

Fruit and veg

Berries are some of our most popular fruit and Berry Sweet brings the best of them to us from three locations. Think sweet strawberries, ripe raspberries, brilliant blueberries and blackberries – all built on the philosophy you should be able to pick whatever you want in season off the plant and know it’s healthy and delicious.

Beta Spuds and Supa Spud are one of the largest suppliers of potato varieties across the State, producing spuds from Binningup to Pemberton, and sourcing from growers in Baldivis, Busselton and Gingin to ensure top supply year round.

Boasting a proud century in business, Premier Fresh Australia works closely with some of WA’s finest growers to maintain its reputation for quality produce and service. Based at Market City, Canning Vale, Quality Produce International is also dedicated to sourcing premium fruit and vegetables for independent grocers and supermarket chains; while Greenfields Foods have added consumer-friendly pre-packed products, such as salad bags and soup essentials, to their fruit and vegetable range.

Family affairs

The Galati brothers have been picking vegetables since they were kids, helping in their parents’ market garden after school. Now they bring farm-fresh fruit and veg at affordable prices to shoppers at Spudshed outlets across Perth and regional WA.

Bumbak & Sons run a third-generation plantation, where they specialise in table grapes and mangoes, while Sweeter Banana, a cooperative of Carnarvon growers behind the popular lunchbox banana (and, more recently, frozen treats), has helped increase appreciation for our creamy bananas.

Harvey-based LJM Produce is proudly owned and operated by the Maiolos family, driven by the belief in 100 percent locally grown produce, while generations of growers are also behind some of our original farming members. Bogdanich Farms is a third-generation farming business that began growing vegies in Gwelup in 1935, eventually moving to Gingin, where crops include cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli.

Monte Farms is another third-generation family affair. Based in Carabooda, in northern Perth, and Karakin, in the Wheatbelt, they grow leaf line and brassica vegetables, including cos heart lettuce and celery; while Carabooda neighbours A& S Canzirri & Sons have been delivering quality fresh produce to the Canning Markets since the 1950s.

West Australian Corn Growers also go back a long way. Formerly known as Trandos Farms, the State’s largest grower of beans and corn has been growing fresh food for more than 80 years and four generations, from Wanneroo to Gingin and up to Broome.

Dairy delights

We are also spoilt for delicious dairy. Bannister Downs Dairy, a People’s Choice winner at the WA Good Food Guide Awards, produces milk, cream, flavoured milk and smoothies from its processing facility on the farm in Northcliffe.  Family-owned Borrello Cheese is rather partial to WA milk, too, sourcing from local dairy farmers for more than 40 years to make everything from bocconcini to ricotta.

Harvey Fresh has been producing delicious dairy and fruit juice in the Peel region for 50 years, while Golden Eggs has notched up 80 years in business, providing a range of eggs and employing more than 200 locals.

Perfect pantry

Then there are grocery items, such as premium Jingilli EVOO, made from olives grown in the Moore River and Frankland River regions; Whittingtons, which has been supplying herbs and spices as well as a range of marvellous mustards for more than 50 years; and Wescobee Honey, producing the nectar of the gods for a century.

Farmer Jack’s, a locally owned business with 11 supermarkets in Perth, Coles supermarkets, IGA and Woolworths have also been with Buy West Eat Best since its inception, meaning you will always find plenty of grocery and fresh food items bearing our distinctive bitemark wherever you shop.

Thank you to all our members, both long term and newer arrivals. We look forward to supporting you for many years to come. And to all the loyal customers who support Western Australian food and beverage businesses day in, day out, thank you. You really are making a difference.
